Alfonso Covarrubias (1980) is a chilean Bandoneon player and teacher. He completed his musical study at Hohner-Conservatory in Trossingen (Germany) and later studied with renowned musicians like Julián Peralta and Federico Pereiro in Buenos Aires (Argentina). Covarrubias Trayectory with musical activities began over twenty years, but

since the last ten years he dedicates himself to the study of the bandoneon, resulting in giving many solo concerts

between the years 2017 and 2018.

 

 

In his concerts, Covarrubias plays argentinian tangos from masters such as Anibal Troilo, Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel and Anselmo Aieta, with special-made arrangements for the bandoneon. Also Alfonso Covarrubias plays his own arrangements for bandoneon from chilean musicians like Violeta Parra and his own compositions.

Alfonso Covarrubias played bandoneon with Tango-septett "La Hoguera" in Buenos Aires, (Argentina) during the year 2013.

With the Chilean Quintett "Calle-Tango" from 2014-2016 in Santiago (Chile), and also played in the Quintett from José Angel Trelles (Tango singer who recorded with Astor Piazzolla) during his visit to Santiago in 2017. This formation played some concerts in Santiago´s Municipal Theater, the biggest in Chile.

Later that year Alfonso Covarrubias performed the "Hommage à Liege" Concert from Astor Piazzolla (bandoneon, guitar and string orchester) with guitarist Luis Castro and the "Orquesta juvenil de Providencia".

In Juni 2018 Alfonso Covarrubias played a small tour in Germany, performing as bandoneon-solist in cities like Trossingen, Berlin, Holzkirchen and Schliersee.
